Absolutely! 

Notice what mother nature is up to? Flooding, earthquakes & hurricanes.  Look around and notice what's going on in the country, in the world. Food prices rising and rising quickly.  See what's happening at the grocery stores and with our farms, our food supply.  Everything around us reminds us that we really need to be prepared. And that we should not be dependent up grocery stores.  Everyone should have enough food, water and emergency supplies on hand, for whatever life throws our way.

One of the good things about THRIVE foods is that not only is it ideal for long term storage it is great for saving time and money with everyday use.  When you can get more nutrients out of your food with no additives plus a long shelf life why would anyone not be interested?


For me, I know I'm doing something honorable by helping others become more self reliant and feeding their family healthier food. I would never have considered selling or becoming a consultant before. I would avoid "parties" whenever possible. They were just not my thing. This is different and different in many ways.

For example, there is no inventory you need to carry. You do not have to gather up and deliver anything.  What you do it teach people what the products are and allow them to see and sample so they know what they would be getting.  I'm a major foodie, so flavor and texture is very important to me.  When I tasted Thrive foods and started cooking with them I knew I wanted everybody to know these items were available.  This is not pushing onto friends and family "something" you are trying to sell to make money.  You are showing everyone what is available and how they can get them at a reasonably price and become more self reliant for their own families. As well as providing you with a nice income and perks. 

One of the major perks for being a Consultant is that you receive commissions AND you receive free product benefits by having your own party. That means you make commission on your own purchases and others that are not associated with another host. Not only that but the "double dip" is available to you as well.  That's how I started out.  I wanted food storage for my own family.  I became a consultant only to help my own family by taking advantage of receiving commission AND free product benefits from having my own party and using the double dip on my next party. "My" first party covered my consultant kit cost. It all added up quickly for me, it was fabulous.
 

This is NOT a get rich scheme, this is a real job.  But it is a job you have control over. You set your own hours, you decide how much or how little you work.  You decide if you want to just make enough to build up your own supplies or if you want to make this be a full-time money earning job for yourself.  You decide if you want to work by yourself or if you want to build your own team.

There is no magic sales number you need to reach each month. Your only commitment is to have your own monthly Q, which is considered a business expense.


And if that wasn't enough, there is HUGE potential for growth with Shelf Reliance.  They are a solid company that has just recently started selling their products through independent consultants and home parties.  This means you really are in on the ground floor of this opportunity.  Think about companies like Mary Kay, Pampered Chef & Avon, they have millions of consultants and major saturation.  Shelf Reliance, as of May 2011, had less than 4000 consultants. Making Thrive Mayo

Whenever we have a "Tasting Event" one of the items we always have on hand is the Thrive Chicken Salad.  The main reason is it's an excellent way to give people a chance to taste the freeze dried chicken; nice and simply.

Plain chicken is not that interesting and you don't want it in a soup, casserole or pot pie as you would have too many other ingredients. What you really want is to have a good idea of what freeze drying might do to meat ........

It's really not a scary process and it's much better for you than dehydrated!

We do our chicken salad different ways depending on the group.  Sometimes just the freeze dried chicken, freeze dried onion and freeze dried celery. Other times we will add freeze dried mangoes, or freeze dried raspberries. Other times we will use craisins and/or nuts.


Chicken Salad with Craisins

One of the other nice things we do is make our own mayonnaise. Of course we use Thrive whole egg powder.


Thrive Mayo
Francesca's fresh mayo

2 Tbs plus 2 tsp Vinegar or Lemon Juice (or combination)
2 Thrive Whole Powdered Eggs (reconstituted)
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Mustard
1 tsp Sugar
2 Cups Safflower Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil

In a food processor add the vinegar and/or lemon juice with eggs, salt, mustard and sugar.  Pulse several times until everything looks well blended.

With the processor running add the oil in a THIN stream.  It is important to add the oil very slowly so that it will properly emulsify and stay that way.  If the mayonnaise becomes too thick it can be thinned out by adding small amounts of water, a little at a time. I have not had to do this as it's been perfect every time. Not bragging, it's just that simple.

Since this mayonnaise does not contain any preservatives it will keep in the refrigerator for only about five days.

I wondered if this mayonnaise would freeze as it's made with egg powder and not fresh eggs.  NOPE! I tried.

Sometimes I'll pulse in a few cloves of fresh garlic (I'm Italian - so I can't resist) and/or some other herbs.  I have blended in tomato powder to use on chicken panini sandwiches.

Feel free to be creative.  I highly recommend everybody play with their food!

Spelt?

Since I first found out that Shelf Reliance added Spelt to their Thrive food line I wanted to play with it. I know it's not a new grain, it's just new to me.  Since my first love is chocolate I often wonder what to pair it with that's new. In my world most things are good with chocolate!

I found an interesting recipe I had to try to see if it tasted as good as it sounded to me.  Not Only Pizza makes it a bit fancier than I do so try either one you like.

If you didn't already know Spelt is similar to wheat in appearance, but it has a tougher husk than wheat. Spelt flour has a somewhat nuttier and slightly sweeter flavor than whole-wheat flour. It also contains more protein than wheat, and contains gluten, so spelt is not suitable for a gluten-free diet.

Thrive Sisters Shelf Reliance

Spelt Cookies

1 cup      Thrive corn meal
1 1/2 cups Thrive spelt, ground into flour
3/4 cup    Thrive Butter Powder, re-hydrated
2 Tbsp.    Thrive brown sugar, packed
1 tsp.     Vanilla extract
           Zest of 1 lemon
1/4 tsp.   Thrive salt
1/2 tsp.   Thrive baking powder
3          Egg yolks
1/3 cup    Pine nuts
5-7 oz.    Chocolate, bitter sweet

Makes: 35 cookies 2 1/2" cookies

Melt butter and set aside.  Blend together the cornmeal, flour, and the sugar in a bowl. Make a well in the center of the flour,pour the butter, the 3 egg yolks and the salt. Combine well with a fork. Stir in the pine nuts & the lemon zest.

Wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. In the meantime heat the oven to 350°.

Roll out the dough to 1/4" thick. Cut using a 2 1/2" cookie cutter. I always use parchment paper on my baking sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes and let them cool at least for 5 minutes.

Melt chocolate on medium heat in a double boiler, or GENTLY in the microwave.  Meaning do 30 seconds, stir well, then 30 seconds,stir well. Repeat until melted.  Stiring is necessary as the residue heat melts the chocolate and if you over heat it will actually burn the chocolate and change the flavor.

Spread melted chocolate on the top of each cookie, place them on a wire rack and let them cool and the chocolate hardens.

Water storage is and should be a major concern for everybody.

You can live for days & weeks without food but you must have water to survive.


Store more than just food & water!
Most sources will recommend that we need a minimum of 1 gallon of water per day per person. That is only for survival.  Water is needed for drinking; cooking, cleaning of cooking and eating utensils, personal hygiene, laundry, some of us have pets that will also require water.

If you currently have no water storage then START and start with one gallon of water per person.  Start with the goal of 2 weeks storage.  That is doable with no special equipment to purchase.

You can store water in food grade and/or PETE plastic containers. Two liter plastic soda bottles work well.  Do not use plastic jugs or cardboard containers that once had milk or juice in them.

Soda bottles for smaller amounts.



Water storage boxes are another good option. Mylar bags are filled with water then placed into stackable cardboard boxes.

For larger water storage containers you have many types to choose from.  Research to determine what type and size fit your personal needs and storage space.  Here are two examples:

Always try to store your water away from too much light or heat.  Make sure you thoroughly clean and rinse all of your containers before filling with water to store. Never use containers previously used to store non-food products.

DO NOT store water containers directly on concrete. Place on cardboard, wood pallets, something as a barrier.

Boiling is the safest way to clean water; however you can also use household liquid bleach to kill microorganisms.

Water storage, as with food storage, needs to be rotated. Depending on your storage method and water treatment this will be every six months – 5 years.
